With almost daily reports of security breaches by cyber criminals trying to gain access to data and systems in every major industry and government, it’s more important than ever that companies provide added protections for their customers and the latest safeguards for their products. Trimble is doing just that with Trimble Identity (TID).
What is Trimble Identity?
Trimble Identity (TID) is the sign-in functionality used for fast, secure access to Trimble solutions. Using multiple layers of high-level protection, Trimble Identity safeguards your privacy and helps protect your data from growing global cyber-threats, while also offering several features to optimize reliability and performance.
What is new in the latest version of Trimble Identity?
The new Trimble Identity upgrade includes significant security and user experience features designed to protect your company’s data, while also providing a more seamless user experience.
Trimble Identity now supports two-factor authentication methods when signing in to Trimble applications. Two-factor authentication provides a second security layer to ensure only authorized users can access your company’s information. Enabling two-factor authentication is optional; users who need the extra security two-factor authentication offers have two different methods for providing the second authentication step:
- Authentication via SMS: This method will send the user a code via SMS to the phone number associated with their Trimble Identity. The user will then need to enter the code as part of the sign in process
- Authentication via Authentication Apps: This method enables users to use common authentication apps, like Google Authenticator, on their smartphone to generate a code that needs to be entered during the sign in process
Users can now sign in with their existing Google and Apple accounts, providing a quick and easy way to get started with Trimble applications without requiring a separate user name and password.
How do I update my software?
The following Trimble Geospatial applications* have been updated with support for the new version of Trimble Identity:
Trimble Access:
Trimble Access version 2021.10 was released on June 7, 2021 and is compatible with the new version of Trimble Identity. Users currently on maintenance can update to this version now, more information about this release is available here.
Trimble Business Center:
Trimble Business Center v5.50 was released on June 7, 2021 and is compatible with the new version of Trimble Identity. Users currently on maintenance can update to this version now. If you are not on maintenance, TBC versions going back a year from now will be updated to be compatible with this version of TID, and will cover users from v5.30 and above.
Trimble TerraFlex:
Trimble TerraFlex v5.4 is available to download from the Google Play and Apple App stores. All users can update to this latest version.
Trimble Mobile Manager:
Trimble Mobile Manager v2.8.1 is available to download from the Google Play and Apple App stores. All users should update to this latest version.
Trimble Sync Manager:
Trimble Sync Manager v1.4.63 was released on August 4, 2021 with support for the new version of Trimble Identity. More information about this release is available here.

Hardware dependencies where software will not be updated
Some customers using Windows Embedded Handheld devices will not be able to update to the latest software version without purchasing new hardware. In these cases a temporary solution is available.
Trimble AccessSync:
Trimble Access 2017.x versions use Trimble AccessSync for cloud data transfer through Trimble Connect. An account federation process will need to be followed, as detailed here.
Trimble TerraFlex:
TerraFlex customers transferring data from Windows Embedded Handheld devices, including Trimble GeoExplorer and Trimble Juno devices, to Trimble Connect will need to follow a new, browser-based account federation process to link their Trimble TerraFlex and Trimble Identity accounts from the August 30, 2021. Information on this process is available here.
What happens if I don’t update my software?
After August 30, 2021, users of previous versions of software products accessed via Trimble Identity will no longer be able to sign in. If you are unable to update your software before August 30 you should contact your local Trimble distributor at the earliest opportunity.

Do I need to create another account for the new Trimble Identity?
No, you can continue to use the same account (including username and password) that you are using with Trimble applications today.
How do I enable two-factor authentication for my Trimble Identity?
Two-factor authentication is enabled from your Trimble Identity Profile page. Two-factor authentication will only be required when signing in to Trimble applications that support the new Trimble Identity system.
Can I change the email address associated with my Trimble Identity?
The email address associated with your Trimble Identity can be changed on your Trimble Identity Profile page.
Do I need to do anything to use my Google or Apple social sign in with my existing Trimble Identity?
The option to sign in with your Google or Apple account is shown when signing in with the new Trimble Identity system. It is important that the email address associated with your Google or Apple account matches the email address you were using with your Trimble application previously in order to retain access to data associated with your account.
